'First Man' is released in the US

First Man is a 2018 American biographical drama film directed by Damien Chazelle and written by Josh Singer, based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen. The film stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, and follows the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon in 1969.

Bowie and Prince are in list of top-earning dead celebrities

David Bowie and Prince are new entries in the latest list of top-earning dead celebrities to be compiled by Forbes. Prince's pre-tax income from October 2015 to October 2016 is estimated at $25m by the business magazine, putting him fifth in the list. Bowie, meanwhile, is ranked at 11th for an estimated income of $10.5m.

Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' is released

"This Is It" premiered, as scheduled, on Jackson's official website MichaelJackson.com in October at midnight. Within the day of the song's release, via the World Wide Web, listeners, unaware of the song's background, drew comparisons of the song to Sa-Fire's "I Never Heard." Soon after, media outlets The New York Times and TMZ.com informed Anka of the similarities between the songs.

John Denver is killed

Denver was killed when his experimental Rutan Long-EZ plane, aircraft registration number N555JD, crashed into Monterey Bay near Pacific Grove, California while making a series of touch-and-go landings at the nearby Monterey Peninsula Airport. Denver was the only occupant of the aircraft. Identification was not possible using dental records; only his fingerprints confirmed that the pilot was Denver.

Jennifer Rush is at #1 on the UK singles chart

"The Power of Love" is a song co-written and originally recorded by Jennifer Rush in 1984. Rush's original version, released in her native US at the end of 1984 and in Europe during 1985, went to number 1 in the United Kingdom in October 1985 and became the biggest-selling single of the year in that country. It was also a number one single in several other European countries.

Big Brother And The Holding Company go to #1 in the US

Cheap Thrills, was a great success, reaching number one on the charts for eight nonconsecutive weeks in 1968. Columbia Records offered the band a new recording contract, but it took months to get through since they were still signed to Mainstream Records. The album also features Bill Graham, who introduces the band at the beginning of "Combination of the Two".

The Beatles record 'Run For Your Life'

Lennon wrote, "Run for Your Life" based on "Baby Let's Play House", which was one of Presley's early singles on the Sun record label. Lennon retained a line from the Presley track – "I'd rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man". It was the first track recorded for the album and features a descending guitar riff played by Harrison and slide guitar parts
