Poles of the red planet

NASA probe Mariner 9 took pictures of the Mars North Pole. Mariner 9 was the first spacecraft which orbited another planet. Mariner spent on the orbit of mars 349 days. It took more than seven thousand pictures which covered 85% of Mars' surface. The probe found remnants of rivers and inactive vulcanoes.

First multi-manned spacecraft is launched

The Soviet Union launched Voskhod 1 spacecraft. It was the first spaceflight with more than one person on board. Three cosmonauts, Vladimir Komarov, Konstantin Feoktistov and Boris Yegorov didn’t carry spacesuits. The mission was launched in a great hurry, but went well even so, and was considered successful.

America is discovered

Christopher Columbus landed at the island in the Bahamas archipelago. He named the island San Salvador. Columbus believed that he reached East Asia. Later, people forgot that Columbus had landed on the island. They started to call it after 17th-century English buccaneer John Watling who had his base there.
