Leadenhall building is officially opened

122 Leadenhall Street, also known as the Leadenhall Building is a skyscraper in London that is 225 meters tall. It was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners; it is known informally as the Cheesegrater because of its distinctive wedge shape similar to that of the kitchen utensil with the same name.

"My Brilliant Friend" by Elena Ferrante is published

Rock musical "Memphis" opens on Broadway

Directed by Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, the Broadway production of Memphis began previews at the Shubert Theatre. The cast included many of the cast members from the pre-Broadway productions, including Chad Kimball as Huey Calhoun and Montego Glover as Felicia Farrell.

Marlon Brando makes his Broadway debut

In 1944, Marlon made it to Broadway in the bittersweet drama I Remember Mama, playing the son of Mady Christians. The Lunts wanted Brando to play the role of Alfred Lunt's son in O Mistress Mine, and Lunt even coached him for his audition, but Brando's reading during the audition was so desultory that they couldn't hire him. New York Drama Critics voted him "Most Promising Young Actor".
