Laser is described

Physics student Gordon Gould described in his notebook a new method of producing coherent monochromatic light. He called it “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (laser).” Unfortunately for Gould, two other scientists, Charles Townes and Arthur Schawlow, already patented laser independently. It took a long time for Gould to be recognized as one of the laser inventors.

Radiation from space

American physicist Robert A. Millikan confirmed the extra-terrestrial origin of cosmic rays. Previous attempts to do this were inconclusive. Cosmic rays are coming from outside of the solar system. They most often consist of protons. When cosmic rays reach Earth's atmosphere, they produce showers of secondary particles.
