World Anti-Doping Agency's independent commission published a 323-page report concerning wide-spread doping of Russian athletes, which was followed by the International Association of Athletics Federations suspending Russia from world track and field events.

Garry Kasparov becomes the youngest World Chess Champion

At the time of the match, Karpov had a FIDE rating of 2720, while Kasparov had a rating of 2700. Karpov was 34 years old, which made him 12 years older than Kasparov. Because of the time pressure, Karpov made a decisive error on move 36. Subsequently, Kasparov won the World Championship after Karpov resigned on move 42.

Army vs. Notre Dame football game

The game between Army and Notre Dame was a college football game that ended in a scoreless tie. Both teams finished the season undefeated with this one tie, but it was Notre Dame that was awarded the national championship by the Associated Press. The game is regarded as one of the 20th century Games of the Century.
