Sebastian Vettel wins his 9th straight GP victory

Sebastian Vettel's emphatic victory in Canada brought the 4-time world champion into an exclusive club when it comes to Formula 1 race winners - drivers who have won 50 Grands Prix. Although Vettel won his first Grand Prix at the then-record young age of 21 and was incredibly a 5-time champion by the age of 26, the now 30-year-old has actually taken slightly longer than any of the three other drivers to reach the 50-win landmark.

Luis Suarez receives his first ban for biting

Suárez bit PSV's Otman Bakkal on the shoulder during a 0–0 draw. Ajax suspended him for two matches and fined him an undisclosed amount, which the club said they would donate to a "good cause". The KNVB increased Suárez's suspension to seven league matches. Suárez apologised for his actions through a video he uploaded to his Facebook page.

1979

Former Manchester United star George Best debuts

Best caused a stir when he returned to the UK to play for Hibernian. The club was suffering a decline in fortunes and was heading for relegation from the Premier Division, before Best was signed on a "pay per play" basis after the club chairman, Tom Hart, received a tip-off from an Edinburgh Evening News reporter that he was available.
