6,500 people buy crumbling castle

The Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers is a castle at the town of Les Trois-Moutiers in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of France. In 2017, 18,600 members of an online community raised €1,600,000, by paying at least €50 each, to purchase the castle with the aim of restoring it.

The world premiere of "Lazarus"

Lazarus is a musical with music and lyrics composed by David Bowie, and a book was written by Enda Walsh. First performed at the end of 2015, it was one of the last works Bowie completed before his death in 2016. The musical is inspired by Walter Tevis's novel The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Broadway revival of "The Elephant Man"

The Elephant Man is a play by Bernard Pomerance. It premiered at the Hampstead Theatre in London in 1977. The production's Broadway debut in 1979 at the Booth Theatre was produced by Richmond Crinkley and Nelle Nugent and directed by Jack Hofsiss. The play closed in 1981 after eight previews and 916 regular performances.

The Royal Opera House opens

The Royal Opera House is an opera house and major performing arts venue in Covent Garden, central London. Originally called the Theatre Royal, it served primarily as a playhouse for the first hundred years of its history. In 1734, the first ballet was presented. A year later, Handel's first season of operas began.
